A Little About Velney Development
Josu’e Velney is the founder and CEO of Velney Development, LLC. He served five years in the Marines. During that time, he was deployed three times. After returning home Josu’e served his community as a Somerville firefighter and lieutenant for twelve years.
Today Josu’e is a retired firefighter and full-time real estate developer. Josu’e holds a Bachelor’s degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Construction Management. As a licensed unrestricted construction supervisor, Josu’e is an expert at assessing the development options necessary to bring a project to current market value.
Josu’e currently holds numerous properties in his rental portfolio in Somerville, Medford, Boston, and its neighboring cities.
He has taken his leadership skills, honed in the military, and applied them to real estate development. His mission and focus is on improving his community through real estate development.

How We Got Into Real Estate Development
In the early days, our founder Josu’e was not a real estate developer, he was a first-time home buyer and a veteran home buyer. A few years after purchasing as a first-time home buyer in Somerville, Josue became a licensed real estate agent focusing on property management and sales. Once Josu’e became comfortable with the investing side of the real estate business he started rehabbing multi-family homes in and around the Winter
Hill neighborhood of Somerville, MA. To further his education, Josu’e found himself back in school learning construction management. While in college one professor challenged Josu’e to really focus on understanding real estate development because it seemed like the natural path and the direction Josu’e was heading towards. In 2021 Josu’e started Velney Development and never looked back. Today Josu’e lives in Roxbury. A neighborhood of Boston that he loves and a neighborhood that he feels gives Velney Development the best opportunity for growth because of its proximity to Velney Development’s current projects and his hometown of Somerville. Josu’e is currently working on developing ground-up apartment projects in Roxbury, Roslindale, Dorchester, and Mattapan.
